I'm Amy the Founder of the The Routine Fix.
I have been suffering from chronic illness for over 7 years. I have had a plethora of conditions diagnosed including leaky gut, candida, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (sibo), hypothyroidism, adrenal dysfunction, polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos), epstein barr virus (ebv), human herpes virus 6 (hhv-6), immuno-deficiency and of course chronic fatigue.
I have seen too many doctors, naturopaths, specialists and cannot remember a time when I didn’t have to take 100 (exaggeration but you get it) pills each day. This whole journey has honestly been the hardest years of my life. I never thought I would have to go through the pain and suffering I deal with on a daily and weekly basis and all during my early 20s, a time when people around me have been exploring the world, socialising 24/7 and pursuing their dream careers.
After 6 years I finally realised that something had to give and I needed to step off the merry-go-around and make some radical changes in my life. My social life had dwindled, I felt disconnected to friends and the people around me, I spent all of my hours before and after work fitting in health routines, cooking healthy food and trying to research ways to cure myself and on top of all of that, I had lost motivation at work. I was trying to my best to balance life in general with my health issues but in reality I kept getting daily reminders that my health wasn’t improving and at times simply getting worse. I knew it wasn’t through lack of trying and knew deep down that there was more to life than corporate ladders and six figure incomes.
I quit my corporate job at a leading investment bank and decided to start focussing more of my attention on my health. This led to more time doing my health routines, cooking and eating healthy foods, going to the doctor, doing blood tests, reading, listening to podcasts, sitting in the sunshine, walking, practising yoga, spending time with my boyfriend and friends, saying positive affirmations, journaling, scrapbooking, practising self-love, sharing my story on Instagram (@leakygut), writing, creating this website, learning about the online world and turning my life around to achieve my three ultimate goals - health, wealth and happiness.
I have created The Routine Fix as a place to share the routines that I and others practice in order to overcome and manage health issues. I know that the health routines I have adopted are behind much of the progress I have made with my health and I know many others can say the same for their own health rituals.
